19 Set Asiago: history, gourmet, and wellness in the 7 communities
Holiday code: AST19
Walk around Asiago for a week of moving, relaxing, and wellness in the hotel’s spa. Make your holiday extra delicious with tasty artisanal jams and the famous Asiago cheese!
We offer you a week based on taking care of yourself and being in the company of an incomparable group. The 7 Communities Plateau is rich, full of nature and culture, all year long. In the morning, explore Asiago with other excursionists, while in the afternoon take some time to be cuddled in the hotel’s wellness center. What’s better than an aperitivo facing the elegant buildings and charming shops of Asiago? Kaberlaba, Prunno, Contrada Soster, and Tanzerloch: these terms may be known to the passing tourist but do not sound very Italian. These places represent traces of the old Cimbrian population. Discover the history and culture of the 7 Communities, which, like the Cimbrians, remain an essential part of the territory.
PROGRAM
SUNDAY: arrival in the afternoon at the hotel and briefing with the guide at 18. We recommend a brief walk down the Old Railway, or some relax in the wellness center. Excursion in the moonlight down the old railway.
MONDAY: Cimbrian day with an excursion from Bisele down the Ghelpach creek. Today we visit the Cave of Leute Kuvela and the Bears Quarry. We are blown away by the majestic Schaff Kuvela, a natural rock roof that comes out of the mountain. From here, we continue towards the end of the valley to observe the prehistorical graffitis of Val d’Assa. We then stop by Waister farmhouse, a Slow Food restaurant where we can have some Asiago cheese. In the afternoon, why don’t you visit the archeological site of Bostel or get a relaxing massage at the hotel’s wellness center?
TUESDAY: excursion to the Vezzena plateau. We visit Malga Millegrobbe and Luserna’s fort, along with lunch in Malga Campo. Then, we pass by the only village where the entire population still speaks Cimbrian, Luserna. In the afternoon, we cycle to Barenthal, exploring the English cemeteries or the Cimbrian Museum. Excursion under the moonlight on Erio mountain to watch the star.
WEDNESDAY: We start the day with an excursion to Castelloni di San Marco’s labyrinth. Alternatively, from Campomulo we can go up to Ortigara’s peak and its trenches. Lunch at Campomuletto’s refuge. We then take the Pathway to Silence, Doorway to Memory: ten memorials in the refuge’s woods. Later in the afternoon, we recommend a visit to the Palaghiaccio or a horse riding experience with Erika, who will explain the art of responsible and respectful horse riding.
THURSDAY: soft excursion to Campolongo for a fairytale-like day. Today we visit Altar Knotto, Alta Kugala, and the newly restored Campolorigo’s fort on Astico Valley. For lunch, we can indulge with some dumplings and gnocchi with Rotzo potatoes in Campolongo’s refuge. To digest, we take a walk to Sciason’s gorge, an ancient natural icebox that stores ice all year long. Before coming back, we can visit Malga Camporosà, celebrated for its Asiago cheese. For the afternoon we recommend a visit to Monte Cengio and Corbin’s forts, or the Great War Museum. We spend the evening with some Cimbrian music.
FRIDAY: excursion to Marcesina plain for a day themed on the Great War. The vast Marcésina plain offers nordic views, immense fir forests, prairies, and bogs. The latter also hosts carnivorous plants that are only found in Italy. Later, the Casoni di Marcésina, a complex of wooden houses that form an old lumberers’ village, also setting of many movies. From Malga Slapeur, where we can taste some delicious pecorino, we then proceed to Castelgomberto and Fior mountains. For lunch, we suggest Barricata’s refuge. Next, a visit to the earliest archeological site of the Plateau: Dalmeri’s shelter. In the afternoon, we recommend a stop in Asiago for the Laiten military memorial and the old prisons museum.
SATURDAY: Before going back home, we highly suggest some food and wine shopping, maybe some cheese at the Pennar Dairy, honey at the Guoli apiculture, some Rigoni’s jam, an Ortigara cake, or the Karenebet liquor.
Important: Program may vary depending on weather conditions and guide decisions.
